Electronic Organ Magazine (EOM)
The Society publishes a quarterly journal (the EOM) which contains reports of meetings, technical articles and other items of interest to members. Articles vary from those for beginners to the highly technical.
Other items include Society notices, reports on past meetings and details of future meetings. There is also a sales and wants column, which contains details of members’ surplus instruments and parts for sale, and is often a valuable source of hard-to-find parts. Normally there are four issues of EOM per year.
New members will (subject to availability) receive all issues of EOM from the beginning of the current year and photocopies of back issues may be purchased from the Editor.
For overseas members and those UK members who are unable to attend the London or branch meetings, the main benefit of membership is Electronic Organ Magazine. All past issues of EOM are now available to members in digital format two CDs which are available to members at nominal cost.
Branch Meetings
Branch Meetings are held in several areas where there is a sufficient concentration of members, and many of these meetings take place in members' homes. The Branch Secretaries can provide more information about these meetings.
London Meetings
The main meetings of the EOCS are held in London. All Members are welcome and some travel considerable distances to attend. These meetings are intended to be a source of information and an opportunity to exchange ideas. Talks given by members also form a basis for articles in EOM. As you will gather from the details of the London Meetings we have a great many members who are able to talk to us on both practical and theoretical aspects of organ building. If you fear that your skills are not as great as theirs, do not be intimidated! Interest and enthusiasm are at least as important, and we were all beginners at some time.
Members Handbook
A booklet containing various items of information about the Society, details of resources available, a list of all members with their contact details, etc., is circulated to all members annually. This enables members to know what is currently available from the Society and also encourages contact between members for help, support and general discussion. Members are generally very willing to share their expertise.
Recording Library
The society's Recording Library contains recordings of members' instruments and a few commercial instruments. As most of the instruments have been described in some detail in EOM, these recordings can give prospective constructors some idea of what kind of sound they can expect from a particular design. Members receive a copy of the Library catalogue, and the Librarian can provide a copy of any recording on request, for a nominal charge to cover materials and postage. Recordings are available on CD-R or Cassette.
Kits and Software
The Society supplies at cost, hardware kits for various projects (see Current Projects) and providing these are built in accordance with the notes and to a reasonable standard, there is a 'get you going' service provided by members, should you experience difficulties. Similarly a CD with software for digital sound production is available with the same level of support.
Visitors and Membership
Prospective members are welcome to attend a meeting free of charge (apart from a small charge for refreshments) but are asked as a matter of courtesy to contact the Membership Secretary beforehand. It should be noted, however, that only fully paid up members receive Electronic Organ Magazine.
