Resistance Box
When building analogue circuits, particularly free phase tone generators, tuning can be a tricky area. The final tuning is usually carried out using a fixed resistor in series with a preset, possibly multiturn, the value of which is as small as allowable so as to give easy fine tuning.
Even allowing for the use of fairly close tolerance components the determining of the best combination of fixed and variable resistors can be a tedious process and often involves the use of a potentiometer and resistance meter.
A better way, which helps to retain ones sanity is to use a resistance box to determine the overall resistance needed, then it is a straightforward process.
To aid this and other similar situations, a resistance box has been developed which allows the provision for any value from 10R to almost 10M.
