Womblitzer

Don Bray's "Womblitzer III"

For some years now the original WombliTzer (inspired by a North American organ but made from 'things other folk left behind') has been seen on the web site. Like many EOCS instruments this is a 'Continuous Organ'. The builder hopes to be improving and 'tweaking' until the day he dies.

There is a story in the Society of a member, well past retirement age, whose wife bought him a box of large woodscrews for his birthday but he still didn't take the hint!

Having obtained a console to the Devtronics 'Publix' design from another member the new owner's first task was to see if it would fit into his upstairs flat. He realised that it would never be heard to its full potential in a small room but modern digital recording will allow the full sound to be heard in any large building with suitable audio equipment that is available at a later date. Alternatively artificial reverberation can already be added at home.

All change!

The instrument in its new position can be seen in the photograph. One thing led to another and the whole room has at last been re-planned and re-decorated. New furniture has been bought and installed and the owner claims he has the only known home cinema with a home cinema organ under construction. If you would like to hear the next part of this saga please ask the webmaster to get the next installment.

The 'Publix' was partly assembled in the lounge and this led to the conclusion that the room should be re-decorated whilst there was still enough space. The parts were taken to a 'Satellite store' (aka hired garage half a mile away) and the room redecorated. New 'line level' signal cables and loudspeaker cables were installed before the decoration was done. Somewhere along the line (and no-one is quite sure when or why) it was decided to install a video projector and extra cables were installed for the projector and surround sound. The next step was to build an 'evaluation console' to ensure that the finished job would fit. Various prototype panels were made in plywood and fitted one after the other and each stage was checked for sight lines and cable connections. It was confirmed that it would fit in the proposed location but it also seemed that it would be better the other end of the room!
